FAA and EASA Strengthen Global Safety Partnership

The Federal Aviation Administration and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency have officially committed to closer cooperation regarding global aviation safety. This pledge, announced at the 2026 FAA and EASA International Safety Conference in Virginia, arrives as the industry grapples with the rapid introduction of advanced automated cockpit systems.

For manufacturers and operators, this deepened collaboration aims to streamline certification pathways for emerging technologies. By aligning regulatory standards, both agencies hope to reduce technical friction during the development cycles of next-generation aircraft. The initiative will prioritize data-driven decision-making and modernizing training protocols to ensure these new systems meet international safety requirements efficiently.

Beyond certification, the agencies will focus on shared oversight of emerging risks, including cybersecurity and GPS interference. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford and EASA Executive Director Florian Guillermet emphasized that international alignment is essential to support technical innovation while maintaining public trust. Industry stakeholders can expect more unified approaches to pilot training and simulator requirements as these regulators meet regularly to review progress. The two organizations are scheduled to continue this dialogue at next year’s conference in Cologne, Germany.
