The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has officially finalized the delivery of 32 S-70i Black Hawk helicopters. The final seven aircraft were accepted during a ceremony at Colonel Jesus Villamor Air Base on August 26, 2026. This delivery marks the completion of a major procurement initiative, bringing the total PAF inventory to 47 units and establishing the nation as the largest global operator of the S-70i variant.
Modernizing Utility Capabilities
The acquisition serves as a central component of the Revised Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program. These helicopters are replacing the aging UH-1H Huey fleet, providing the PAF with increased capacity for troop transport, search and rescue, and humanitarian aid. The S-70i is configured to carry roughly 16 to 20 personnel and is designed for operations in diverse weather conditions.
The PAF plans to distribute these assets across the archipelago to bolster regional response times. By stationing aircraft at various Tactical Operations Commands, the military aims to conduct simultaneous missions across its islands. Beyond domestic emergency support, some units will support air patrol missions from Palawan, signaling a strategic transition toward territorial defense as the primary mission for the modernized rotary-wing fleet.
