Turkish Aerospace Industries has successfully transitioned the Hürjet program from prototype testing to series production. The first production-standard aircraft, configured for the Turkish Air Force, completed its maiden flight on August 30, 2026. The test flight lasted 18 minutes, following a series of ground and taxi evaluations.
This delivery-ready configuration is designed to modernize the Turkish Air Force training fleet. The single-engine, tandem-seat aircraft is intended to replace the aging T-38 trainers and potentially the F-5 aircraft currently used by the Turkish Stars. Powered by a General Electric F404 engine, the platform is capable of reaching Mach 1.4 while maintaining high-g maneuverability.
The Hürjet program serves as a domestic effort to provide a lead-in fighter trainer that mirrors modern combat flight characteristics. Beyond domestic service, the platform has gained international traction. Spain has selected the Hürjet to replace its own F-5 trainer fleet, with 30 units expected as part of a joint effort with Airbus beginning in 2028.
With two prototypes having established the baseline for transonic and supersonic performance, this production model begins a final verification phase. The program remains a central element of Turkey’s strategy to develop an indigenous military aviation manufacturing sector.
