Nigerian Air Force ATR 42 Crashes in Ondo State

A Nigerian Air Force ATR 42 transport aircraft has crashed near Igbokoda in Nigeria’s Ondo State. The incident occurred on October 5, 2026, while the aircraft was operating a routine flight from Benin City to Lagos.

According to reports from the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft, identified by tail number NGR 931, at 09:13 local time. Following a failed attempt to reestablish radio communication, the wreckage was eventually located near a naval facility in Igbokoda.

Official records indicate that 32 individuals, consisting of 25 passengers and seven crew members, were on board the flight. The Nigerian Air Force, under the direction of Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, has confirmed the crash and initiated a search and rescue operation in coordination with emergency response teams and local authorities.

While the ATR 42 is widely utilized for its multi-role capabilities in both civil and defense sectors, the focus currently remains on the recovery mission and the subsequent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the flight’s disappearance. Local law enforcement has confirmed the crash site, with further updates expected as the recovery process continues.
