A US Marine Corps F-35B Lightning II fighter aircraft crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego on Friday. Military officials confirmed that the pilot successfully ejected from the stealth fighter before impact. The pilot was transported to a local medical facility and is currently in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews responded to the site following reports of a vegetation fire near the crash area. Aerial footage of the location showed significant debris and fire suppression efforts underway in a dirt field adjacent to the base.
This incident follows a series of recent military aviation accidents within the United States. According to data from the Flight Safety Foundation’s Aviation Safety Network, at least seven other military aircraft have been involved in accidents this year. These events have drawn increased attention to operational readiness and safety protocols across the various branches of the US armed forces.
