Malaysia Aviation Group Acquires Sepang Aircraft Engineering

Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has finalized a definitive agreement to acquire Sepang Aircraft Engineering (SAE) from Airbus. This transaction marks a significant development in the regional maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) sector, aligning with the group’s long-term business strategy.

By bringing SAE under its operational umbrella, MAG aims to expand its internal technical capabilities and integrate third-party engineering services. The acquisition serves as a central pillar of the group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0, which prioritizes the scaling of MRO services to support both internal fleet requirements and external market growth.

The move also signals a shift in the regional footprint for Airbus. While Airbus continues to maintain a strong presence in Southeast Asia, the divestment of SAE suggests a strategy of streamlining its direct involvement in specialized MRO operations within the Malaysian market. For industry operators and MRO stakeholders, the transition reflects the ongoing consolidation of airline-led engineering services in the Asia-Pacific region, providing MAG with a more robust infrastructure to capture increasing demand for aviation maintenance solutions.
