Heart Aerospace has achieved a key technical milestone with the successful first flight of its X1 demonstrator at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York. The flight lasted 27 minutes and reached an altitude of 1,100 feet. This marks the transition from ground-based systems testing to actual flight operations for the company.
The X1 serves as a foundational platform for the development of the upcoming ES-30 hybrid-electric regional airliner. While the X1 is powered solely by batteries, the ES-30 will integrate a thermal engine to support longer range and increased payload requirements. With a wingspan of 106 feet, the X1 is currently the largest battery-electric aircraft to take to the skies.
Major investors, including United Airlines, continue to monitor the program closely as the manufacturer shifts focus toward its next development phase. A pre-production version of the ES-30 is currently under construction at a facility in Los Angeles. The company plans to begin flight testing that aircraft in 2028, with a broader target for entry into service set for 2031. Despite previous adjustments to the program timeline, the recent X1 flight confirms progress in the company’s hybrid-electric propulsion strategy.
