A Delta Air Lines Boeing 757-200 returned to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) on August 8, 2026, following an emergency landing. The flight, which was bound for Orlando, initiated a diversion shortly after takeoff when the crew reported smoke in the flight deck.
Data from Flightradar24 shows the aircraft reached an altitude of approximately 9,650 feet before the crew began the descent back to Atlanta. Upon landing, the 199 passengers and six crew members were evacuated from the jet via emergency slides directly onto the taxiway.
Delta confirmed the crew followed standard safety protocols for managing in-flight fumes. While most passengers remained unharmed, the incident resulted in medical attention being required for one passenger and one staff member.
The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the event. Passengers were subsequently reaccommodated on a different aircraft to complete their travel to Orlando. Delta has acknowledged the disruption and emphasized that safety remains the primary focus of their operational procedures.
