A new market outlook from Boeing indicates that the African aviation sector is poised for substantial growth over the next two decades. The manufacturer projects that the continent’s commercial fleet will expand from 755 aircraft in 2025 to 1,625 by 2045.
To support this trajectory, the industry will require 1,165 new aircraft deliveries. This demand is heavily weighted toward single-aisle jets, which are expected to account for 870 of the new units. The remainder of the requirements includes 240 wide-body aircraft, 40 regional jets, and 15 freighters.
Beyond hardware, the report identifies a $140 billion opportunity within the aviation services sector. This encompasses the critical infrastructure needed to sustain regional operations, such as maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facilities, as well as digital services.
Addressing the current workforce gap remains a primary hurdle for operators. Boeing estimates that the sector will need 75,000 additional aviation workers to manage the expanded fleet. This service-heavy focus suggests that future development in the region will depend as much on technical training and infrastructure investment as it will on fleet acquisitions.
