Alta Ares Secures €50M to Scale AI-Driven Interceptor Drones

French defense technology firm Alta Ares has successfully raised €50 million in a funding round led by Air Street Capital. The company plans to use the capital to scale production of its AI-guided interceptor drones, which are currently deployed in several international conflict zones.

The startup focuses on two primary systems designed to offset the high costs of traditional air defense. The X-Lock platform is engineered to counter one-way attack drones with a 15-kilometer operational radius. Meanwhile, the turbojet-powered Black Bird system targets faster threats, including cruise missiles, with a range of 30 kilometers.

CEO Hadrien Canter emphasized that the firm provides an end-to-end capability that includes software, maintenance, and training. By integrating private-sector agility into defense, Alta Ares aims to address the economics of modern aerial warfare, where low-cost drone threats often force the use of expensive, high-end interceptors.

The funding will support the expansion of manufacturing facilities in Toulouse and Ukraine, along with the opening of new offices in the Middle East and Asia. This investment follows a wider trend of increased European venture capital interest in counter-drone technologies as operators seek scalable solutions to maintain regional airspace security.
