Allegiant Expands 737 MAX Order to 56 Aircraft

Allegiant Air has confirmed it is exercising purchase options for six additional Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. This latest move brings the carrier’s total firm order count to 56 units. The new aircraft are currently scheduled to join the fleet in 2028.

For ultra-low-cost carriers, long-term fleet planning remains a complex balancing act. By securing these additional delivery slots for 2028, Allegiant is positioning itself for future capacity requirements despite persistent manufacturing and delivery delays across the industry. Such orders demonstrate a preference for maintaining a defined growth trajectory, even when near-term aircraft availability remains unpredictable.

Expanding the order book allows operators to hedge against future supply chain volatility. By locking in these positions now, the airline ensures a clearer pipeline for fleet modernization and capacity expansion later in the decade. The decision highlights how carriers are navigating the current narrowbody delivery landscape by planning well in advance to meet their long-term operational targets.
