NTSB Launches Investigation Following Fatal Learjet 60 Crash

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has initiated an investigation into the fatal crash of a Bombardier Learjet 60 in Greenacres, Florida. The business jet, which departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport bound for the Bahamas, went down in a residential area of Palm Beach County on Sunday.

Preliminary flight tracking data shows the aircraft at a cruising altitude of approximately 41,000 feet before entering a rapid, high-speed descent. According to reports, the jet reached a descent rate of 20,000 feet per minute prior to impact. Audio from the final moments of the flight reportedly indicates that the pilots were contending with icing conditions and moderate turbulence.

The impact resulted in significant local infrastructure damage, including severed power lines and water mains, leading to the temporary closure of nearby schools and road networks. All nine individuals on board were confirmed deceased by authorities.

Investigators are currently gathering evidence to determine the sequence of events leading to the sudden loss of control. The probe will encompass a comprehensive review of the aircraft’s maintenance history, engine performance, and onboard flight-control systems. As the investigation remains in the early stages, no definitive cause for the accident has been released.
