Textron Aviation Debuts First Production Citation CJ4 Gen3

Textron Aviation has officially rolled out the first production unit of the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 at its Wichita manufacturing facility. This development marks a critical step forward for the platform as it moves into the final stages of the certification process.

The program has already accumulated nearly 1,100 hours of flight testing across two test aircraft. Recent efforts have concentrated on hot weather performance and electrical system certification. While original projections aimed for a 2026 debut, the timeline for entry into service is now scheduled for 2027.

The Gen3 platform introduces significant technological updates, most notably the integration of Garmin Emergency Autoland. This feature positions the CJ4 Gen3 as a leader in the light jet category regarding safety systems. The aircraft is designed to offer a 2,165 nautical mile range, a 6,930-pound useful load, and seating capacity for up to 11 people.

As the latest iteration of the manufacturer’s largest light jet, the CJ4 Gen3 is expected to influence the light jet charter market by offering enhanced automation and performance capabilities. Operators and potential buyers are monitoring the final certification steps as the aircraft nears its 2027 service entry.
