Irish lessor Avolon has announced a substantial order for 250 new aircraft, split between Airbus and Boeing. The commitment includes 140 Boeing 737 MAX jets, 75 Airbus A320neo family aircraft, and 35 Airbus A330neo widebodies. An additional 100 aircraft are included as options under the Airbus agreement.
This order brings Avolon’s total firm commitments to 749 units. Industry observers note that such large-scale acquisitions by major lessors underscore persistent demand for fleet modernization as airlines seek to secure capacity in a constrained production environment.
The move also highlights the role of lessors in absorbing long-term manufacturer backlogs. Avolon reports that 89 percent of its deliveries scheduled over the next two years are already placed, pointing to aggressive fleet expansion strategies among operators. The transaction remains subject to approval from Bohai Leasing shareholders, with a decision expected by late October 2026.
Alongside the order, Avolon continues to manage its portfolio actively, executing 84 lease agreements during the third quarter of 2026. These developments reflect a broader trend of liquidity and confidence within the aviation finance sector.
