FTAI Aviation has completed a significant fleet expansion by acquiring 27 Boeing 737-700 aircraft from WestJet. The transaction, confirmed on September 28, 2026, includes a mix of off-lease airframes and aircraft that will continue to operate under lease with the carrier.
Seventeen of the acquired aircraft remain with WestJet as part of a leaseback agreement, providing immediate revenue stability for the lessor. The remaining 10 aircraft are off-lease and are expected to support the company’s Aerospace Products division. This segment focuses on maintenance, repair, and exchange services, particularly for the CFM56 engines that power the 737NG family.
This acquisition highlights the sustained demand for the 737-700 variant within the secondary market. By integrating these assets, FTAI Aviation aims to strengthen its specialized engine services and component supply chain. For operators, the move signals a continued commitment by major lessors to provide mid-life solutions for the 737NG platform, which remains a cornerstone of short-to-medium-haul passenger and cargo operations worldwide.
