The U.S. Air Force has officially initiated the first overseas deployment of the Boeing F-15EX Eagle II. This move signals a significant step in the modernization of the service’s tactical fighter fleet as the aircraft prepares for its new assignment at Kadena Air Base in Japan.
Compared to the legacy F-15E Strike Eagle, the F-15EX introduces substantial technical advancements. The platform features an upgraded fly-by-wire control system and significantly enhanced payload capacity, capable of carrying up to 12 AMRAAM missiles. Despite this increased load, the jet retains a top speed of Mach 2.5, maintaining the high performance associated with the airframe while integrating modern avionics comparable to current fifth-generation platforms.
This deployment supports broader U.S. defense strategy in the Pacific region. While the U.S. currently has a planned production run of 104 jets, Boeing continues to see interest from several international operators.
