Heart Aerospace has reached a significant regulatory milestone in its development of hybrid-electric regional aviation. On July 23, 2026, the company announced it secured a Special Airworthiness Certificate in the Experimental Category (SAC-EC) from the Federal Aviation Administration.
This approval follows a period of ground testing at Plattsburgh International Airport in New York. During the evaluation process, FAA officials inspected the aircraft and reviewed the company’s proposed flight-test protocols and supporting documentation. With the certification now active, the developer is authorized to move the X1 demonstrator into its flight-test campaign.
The X1 serves as a full-scale testbed for the proprietary technology intended for the upcoming ES-30 regional airliner. While initial projections for the test program were previously set for earlier dates, the transition to flight testing remains a priority for the team. CEO Anders Forslund confirmed that the focus is now squarely on commencing the flight phase.
Heart Aerospace moved its operations to the United States following the initial unveiling of the X1 in Sweden. The company has not yet provided a specific schedule for the maiden flight of the demonstrator.
