An Air Canada Boeing 737 MAX 8 operating flight AC774 from Los Angeles exited a paved taxiway and came to a stop in the grass at Montréal-Trudeau International Airport on July 9. All 156 passengers and six crew members were reported safe, with no injuries during the excursion.
Flight tracking data indicates the aircraft touched down on runway 06L before the incident occurred while vacating the runway. The aircraft was traveling at approximately 55 knots when it failed to complete a turn onto taxiway B, resulting in the excursion into the adjacent grass.
The Aéroports de Montréal emergency response team initiated standard protocols, which required a temporary closure of the airport’s north runway. This closure led to significant operational disruptions, including delays for both domestic and international traffic throughout the evening. NAV Canada implemented air traffic flow restrictions to manage the resulting congestion. The runway remained closed for several hours as crews secured the site and prepared for the safe disembarkation of passengers. Operations at the airport resumed after the aircraft was cleared from the area.
