A multinational search and rescue operation is underway in the Arabian Sea following the disappearance of a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400. The cargo aircraft, which was en route from Sharjah to Karachi, vanished from radar late Tuesday night.
According to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority, the flight crew reported a navigation system malfunction at approximately 21:18 local time. Karachi Area Control Centre provided guidance to the crew before radar contact was lost at 21:21. Data retrieved from Flightradar24 indicates the aircraft experienced extreme altitude fluctuations, including a rapid descent, before communication ceased approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
The pilot communicated difficulties with aircraft control, specifically describing the Boeing 737 as rolling and floating during the final minutes of flight. These transmissions are currently under review as part of the broader incident investigation.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister has ordered the military to assist with the recovery effort. The Pakistan Navy, Air Force, and local merchant vessels are currently scouring the area. The 27-year-old aircraft was the sole freighter operated by K2 Airways. Officials have confirmed five crew members were on board at the time of the incident.
