Philippine Airlines (PAL) has been officially invited to join the oneworld global alliance. The announcement took place at the 82nd IATA Annual General Meeting in Rio de Janeiro, marking a significant expansion for the alliance in the Asia-Pacific market.
As the 16th member of oneworld, PAL brings 31 additional destinations to the network. Oneworld chairman Robert Isom noted that the partnership aligns with the alliance’s focus on premium-oriented service. For PAL, the integration follows a successful post-pandemic turnaround and complements existing interline agreements.
Operational updates shared by PAL president Richard Nuttall highlight the role of the Airbus A350-1000 in the carrier’s long-haul strategy. The airline expects five more of the type to join its fleet by early 2027. Despite broader market volatility in the Middle East, the carrier maintains a stable outlook with plans to launch a nonstop Manila to Chicago route this November.
While PAL continues to evaluate new network opportunities, the airline currently has no immediate plans to enter the European market. Executives indicated that the carrier will focus on regions where it can better leverage its existing operational strengths and fleet capabilities.
