A Lufthansa flight from Los Angeles (LAX) to Munich, Germany, was diverted due to concerns over a lost iPad. The flight, LH453, took off from LAX on April 23, 2025, at 5:27 PM PDT. The A380 aircraft, with registration D-AIMC, climbed to 35,000 feet and followed a northern route over Canada and Greenland.
While flying over Manitoba, Canada, the crew learned that a business class passenger’s iPad had gone missing. According to The Aviation Herald, the flight attendants worried that the device might be stuck in the seats, raising concerns about the potential damage to its lithium-ion battery.
After being informed, the pilots decided to divert the flight to Boston Logan International Airport. The A380-800 landed overweight on runway 33L after an additional three hours of flying. The flight resumed about 75 minutes later and finally landed in Munich at 5:47 PM CEST, approximately three hours behind schedule.
This incident highlights the importance of safety protocols in aviation, even for seemingly minor issues like a lost electronic device.
