China has effectively stopped aircraft deliveries from Boeing due to rising trade tensions with the United States. In response to increased U.S. tariffs on Chinese imports, the Chinese government has directed airlines not to buy Boeing aircraft, parts, or related equipment. This affects major airlines like Air China, China Eastern, and China Southern, restricting them to only receiving previously ordered aircraft.
Before this ban, several Chinese airlines had pending orders for around 130 Boeing aircraft. For example, China Southern Airlines intended to add 103 Boeing 737 MAX planes to its fleet. However, the current trade restrictions have created uncertainty about these orders.
Recently, Xiamen Airlines declined the delivery of a 737 MAX at Boeing’s Zhoushan completion center. Instead of being delivered to China, the aircraft was flown 5,000 miles back to Boeing’s Seattle plant. Future orders will depend on resolving the trade disputes between China and the United States.
